UK Power Networks owns and maintains electricity cables and lines across London, the South East and East of England making sure your lights stay on. They understand that some customers will need extra support during a power cut and, if they know where you are, UK Power Networks can do more to help.
They have set up a free Priority Service Register for more vulnerable households in the event of a power cut, including people who are elderly, have health problems, disabilities or who have severe financial difficulties. If you’re a carer, you can register for free on behalf of the person or people you care for.
On joining the register, priority service customers will receive:
- A welcome pack with helpful tips and advice on preparing for a power cut.
- A priority phone number to call and regular text or phone updates dduring a power cut
- If appropriate, assistance from the British Red Cross and other emergency benefits.
Don’t worry if your home doesn’t fall within UK Power Networks’ region, you can contact your own electricity distribution network operator who will also have a Priority Service to sign up to. You can find your Distribution Network Operators here.
Other utilities, like gas and water, also have their own free priority service registers you can sign up to. Click here for further information.
