Do you look after someone with a learning disability? Would you like to be involved in a new sub-committee reviewing the deaths of disabilities

A study called CIPOLD run by the University of Bristol found that some people with learning disabilities were dying sooner than they should.

Some of the reasons for this were related to the standard of health and social care that the received.  It was recommended that a review be set up to:

  • Help reduce premature deaths and health inequalities for people with learning disabilities in England and through local reviews of deaths
  • Make a difference to the lives of people with learning disabilities and their families
  • Ensure that reviews of deaths lead to reflective learning which will result in the improved delivery of health and social care services
  • Ensure the process of reviewing the deaths of people with learning disabilities becomes embedded into local practice across the country

In Wandsworth, the Local Authority and CCG (Clinical /commissioning Group) is setting up a sub-committee, made up of professionals from the CCG, Local Authority, Comunity Learning Disability Teams and a representative from Merton and Richmond.

They would like the views of Carers to be represented and are looking for a Carer to join the group.
